Shalva Mukeria

 

Shalva Mukeria was born in Georgia in a family of musicians. He started studying clarinet at the Tbilisi Conservatory. After his degree, he started studying singing at the Odessa Conservatory in Ukraine, where he graduated in 1993.

His lyric tenor timbre, of a typical Italian quality and with an exceptional extension, granted him the first prize at the International Singing Competition in Prague and Tbilisi, followed by an engagement in 1996 with Odessa Opera, where he sang his first roles: Nemorino in L'elisir d’amore,Alfredo in La Traviata, Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Werther in Werther, as well as tenor solo in Verdi's Messa da Requiemdi Verdi and Rossini's Stabat Mater.

This was followed by: Cassio in Otelloin Las Palmas, Rodolfo in La Bohèmeand Alfredo in La Traviataon an English tour with Ukraine National Opera, his French debut as Rodolfo in Besançon, a Gala Concert at Teatro Regio in Parma in January 2000. Due to the great success he's invited for Elvino in La Sonnambula at Teatro Comunale in Florence as well as Pavia, Como, Cremona and at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova. He then sang the role again at the Leipzig Oper and in 2004 for his Usa debut at the Santa Fe Opera opposite Natalie Dessay.

Other European appearances include: Alfredo and Rodolfo at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen as well as Rodolfo ad Helsinki. In 2005 he becomes a member of the Wiener Staatsoper where he made his debut as Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier andhe obtained great acclaim as Arturo in I Puritani with Edita Gruberova.

In 2007 he sings Duca di Mantova in Bilbao, Jesi, at the Santander Festival and in Tokyo, as well as Tonio in La fille du regimentat Teatro alla Scala in Milan with huge success.

This is followed by: Lucia di Lammermoorin Tours, Jesi and Treviso, I Puritaniin Bruxelles, Palermo, Amsterdam and Toulon conducted by M° Giuliano Carella, Rigoletto and La Sonnambula in Salerno conducted by Daniel Oren, as well as several concerts with Solisti Veneti, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, at La Monnaie in Bruxelles, with Orquesta de Castilla y Leòn, at La Coruna.

Among his recent engagements: Rigoletto in Tokyo, Florence, Jesi and Fermo, I Puritani at the Wiener Staatsoper, in Cagliari, Pamplona, Savonlinna, Essen, La fille du regiment at the Liceu in Barcelona, Maria Stuarda at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, La Traviata at Teatro Verdi in Salerno, Corasmino in Bellini's Zaira at the Festival de Montpellier et Radio France (recorded and to be released on cd by Universal Music), Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor and La Traviata at Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice.

Among his future engagements: Anna Bolena in Florence conducted by Roberto Abbado and directed by Graham Vick and at the Washington National Opera, La Sonnambula at Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Lucia di Lammermoor in Moscow.
