June Anderson was Born in Boston, USA. At 17, she was the youngest finalist at the National Auditions of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She studies singing with Robert Leonard and makes her debut at New York City Opera in 1978 as Konigin der Nacht in Mozart's Die Zauberflote, a role which she will also sing for the movie Amadeus. In the same theatre she sings some of her most acclaimed roles: Gilda in Rigoletto, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, Elvira in I Puritani, Violetta in La Traviata. This repertoire is soon widened with new roles such as: Rimski-Korsakov's Le Coq d’or, Offenbach's Les Contes de Hoffmann, Händel's Giulio Cesare.
In Italiy, June Anderson appears for the first time in Rossini's Semiramide di Rossini at the Rome Opera (an opera which she will also sing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York with Marilyn Horne – edition recorded live on dvd), followed by her debut in Florence and Geneve in Lucia di Lammermoor. Other milestones in her career are: Meyerbeer's Robert le Diable at the Opéra de Paris, La Fille du Régiment with Alfredo Kraus at Teatro Regio in Parma and at the Opéra de Paris, her debut as Anna in Rossini's Maometto II at the San Francisco Opera, La Sonnambula, I Capuleti ed i Montecchi and La donna del lago conducted by Riccardo Muti at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Semiramide and Lucia di Lammermoor at Covent Garden in London, I Puritani at the Opéra Comique in Parigs, Rossini's Armida at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Otello (conducted by Sir John Pritchard and directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi) and Ricciardo e Zoraide (conducted by Riccardo Chailly and directed by Luca Ronconi) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor and La fille du regiment at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, her debuts in La Sonnambula, Rossini's Otello and Bellini's Beatrice di Tenda at Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
Already in the middle of the 90s, June Anderson starts exploring new roles thus increasing her already wide repertoire: Giovanna in Giovanna d'Arco and Lucrezia in Verdi's I due Foscari at Covent Garden in London, Tatiana nell’Evgenij Onegin in Tokyo, Norma at Chicago Lyric Opera, Desdemona in Verdi's Otello at the Los Angeles Opera, Elvira in Verdi's Ernani and Maria in Mazeppa at the Carnegie Hall in New York with the Opera Orchestra of New York, Leonora in Verdi's Il Trovatore and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Among her most recent engagements: her debut in the title role of Donizetti's Anna Bolena at the Pittsburgh Opera, her debut as Grafin in Strauss' Capriccio at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, her debut as Agavé in Henze's The Bassarids at Théâtre du Châtalet in Paris, her debut in Strauss' Daphne at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, her debut in Le Convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali (Primadonna) and in Rossini's Viaggio a Reims (Madama Cortese) at the Opéra di Montecarlo, Rossini's Maometto II and Anna Bolena in Bilbao, La Sonnambula and Norma at the Opéra de Marseille, Verdi's Messa da Requiem in Paris, London and Manchester conducted by Mark Elder, Norma in Leipzig conducted by Riccardo Chailly and at Teatro Verdi in Trieste, her debut in the title role in Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia at the Opéra Royale de la Wallonie in Liege, Norma at the Bellini Festival 2009, her debut as Madame de Lidoine in Poluenc's Les dialogues des Carmelites at the Opéra de Nice conducted by Michel Plasson in the production directed by Robert Carsen.
