German Villar


Management: Italy and other countries.

          Germán Villar was born in Valencia in 1975 and starter his vocal studies in Madrid with Inés Ribadeneira, moving then in 1995 to Valencia at Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory under the guidance of Ana Luisa Chova.
In 2000 he receives a grant from the Metropolitan Opera House’s Young Artist Program, moving to New York to study with Renata Scotto, Joan Dorneman, Trish McCarffrey, Kamal Khan, Pierre Vallet, Yelina Kurdina, Bob Coward, etc…
          In 2001 he makes his operatic debut with La Traviata in Valencia as Alfredo. In 2002 he appears at the ViñasCompetition in Barcellona, obtaining three prizes and after which he is put under contract by Giessen’s Stadttheater.
          In this theatre he sings leading roles in: Norma (Pollione), A Streetcar Name Desire (Mitch), Martha (Lyonel), Fedora (Loris Ipanov), Madama Butterfly (Pinkerton), Fledermaus (Alfred), Orleanskaja Deva (Carlo VI) and Nabucco (Ismaele). He has also performed the roles of Werther, Lensky (Evgenji Onegin) and Luigi (Il Tabarro), working with conductors such as Gabriele Bellini, Kamal Khan e José Collado.
          Among his recent engagements: Carmen (Don Josè) at the Teatro Politeama in Catanzaro and in Reggio Calabria under Guillaume Tournaire, Froh in Das Rheingold both in Valencia and at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under Zubin Mehta, Nabucco and Tosca at the Greek National Opera in Athens, Siegmund in Die Walküre in Freiburg, Christian in Alfano’s Cyrano de Bergerac opposite Placido Domingo conducted by Patrick Fourniller in Valencia. With this same title he made his debut at La Scala in Milan in February 2008.
          Among his future engagements: Carmen at the Washington National Opera and at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Marie Victoire at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Simon Boccanegra and Samson et Dalila in Freiburg, Das Rheingold (Froh) in Valencia under Zubin Mehta.
