Emanuel Joel

          Emmanuel Joel-Hornak made his musical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, and has conducted extensively, with acclaimed performances with the opera companies of Lyon, Nantes, Montpellier, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Nancy and the Aix-en -Provence Festival (Francesca da Rimini, Madama Butterfly, La Fanciulla del West, The Fiery Angel, Tosca, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, From the House of the Dead).

          After his 1993 debut at the Paris Opera/Bastille with Offenbach's Les Brigands, he conducted: at the Wexford Festival (Boieldieu's La Dame Blanche), in Maastricht with opera Zuid (Chabrier's L'Etoile), in Dublin (Delibes's Lakmé), at London's English National Opera (a critically acclaimed new production of Massenet's Don Quixote as well as Les Pêcheurs de Perles and La Bohème), at the Jerusalem Festival (Carmen), Melbourne's Victoria State Opera (Semele and Les Pêcheurs de Perles ), Scottish Opera (a new production of La Belle Hélène, Nabucco and Aida), the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv (new production of Werther, Madama Butterfly), San Francisco Opera (Carmen, Don Carlo, La Bohème, Samson et Dalila with Olga Borodina and Sergej Larin),  New York City Opera (La Traviata), Los Angeles Opera (Werther with Ramon Vargas, Don Pasquale), Cincinnati Opera (Faust), Toulouse (Werther, Pelleas et Melisande), Montpellier (Chausson's Le Roi Arthus, Samson et Dalila, La Fanciulla del west), Marseilles (Faust, Samson et Dalila, Barraud's Marouf), Strasbourg (Roméo et Juliette), Turin (Orfeo all’inferno, Hamlet), Washington Opera (Barber’s Vanessa with Kiri Te Kanawa), Opera Company of Philadelphia (La Grande duchesse de Gerolstein), Houston Grand Opera (Manon with Elizabeth Futral), Stocholm (Carmen), Sydney (Manon and Il Trovatore), Goethenburg (Les Dialogues des Carmélites, Pelléas et Mélisande), Oslo (Les Dialogues des Carmélites, Werther), Nantes (Il Trittico).

          His recent engagements include: Thais at the Barbican Center in London with Elizabeth Futral, Don Carlo and Chérubin at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, Gounod's Roméo et Juliette at the Houston Grand Opera with Ramon Vargas, Carmen in Wiesbaden, Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Leipzig, La Belle Hélène at the English National Opera with Dame Felicity Lott in Laurent Pelly’s production, Faust at the New-Zealand Opera, in Wellington and Auckland, Roméo et Juliette at the Pittsburgh Opera, Berlioz’s Beatrice et Benedict as well as Paisiello’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Opéra de Lausanne, Roméo et Juliette at the Opéra de Toulon.

          Among his future engagements: Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Les pecheurs de perles with the Australian Opera in Melbourne and Sydney, a new production of Faust at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, La Bohème with New Zealand Opera, a symphonic concert with the Auckland Philamornia Orchestra, a new production of La Traviata directed by David Mc Vicar at the Scottish Opera, Carmen at the Nes Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.

          On the concert platform, Emmanuel Joel has conducted the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne at the Montreux Festival, Orchestre de Bretagne, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie in Brussels, Orchestre Colonne and Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France in Paris, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lithuania at the Vilnius Festival, the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio di Torino, Het Gelders Orkest in Arnhem, the Philarmonisches Orchester Dortmund and l'Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, Auckland Philamornia Orchestra.
